If it gets stuck on booting, with messages that end up with 'Too many bad sectors', then you just need to rebuild the MBR.

mbrfix /drive <n> fixmbr


where <n> is the drive number, possibly 0 for C: — check that first with

mbrfix /drive <n> driveinfo
