{"id":781,"date":"2012-06-20T14:18:30","date_gmt":"2012-06-20T13:18:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fbcs.co.uk\/wp\/?p=781"},"modified":"2012-06-20T14:18:30","modified_gmt":"2012-06-20T13:18:30","slug":"arch-linux-updating-perl-from-5-14-to-5-16","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.fbcs.co.uk\/arch-linux-updating-perl-from-5-14-to-5-16\/","title":{"rendered":"Arch Linux &#8212; updating Perl from 5.14 to 5.16"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Recent updates (in June 2012) to Arch Linux replaced Perl 5.14 with 5.16.<\/p>\n<p>Imagine my surprise when Perl scripts (including cpanp) suddenly stopped working.<\/p>\n<p>I asked about the problem on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.perlmonks.org\/?node_id=976682\" target=\"_blank\">PerlMongers<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/bbs.archlinux.org\/viewtopic.php?id=143581\" target=\"_blank\">Arch Linux forum<\/a>, and did the following to solve it:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Delete all files under <span style=\"font-family:courier new,courier,monospace;\">\/usr\/bin\/site_perl<\/span>, <span style=\"font-family:courier new,courier,monospace;\">\/usr\/lib\/perl5\/site_perl<\/span> and <span style=\"font-family:courier new,courier,monospace;\">\/usr\/share\/perl5\/site_perl<\/span> to remove the duplicates installed by the cpan shell.<\/li>\n<li>Rebuild all AUR packages that contain perl XS modules. This will print them out:\n<pre><code>sudo pacman -Qml | awk &#39;\/_perl\/auto\/.+.so$\/ { print $1 }&#39; | uniq<\/code><\/pre>\n<p>(There weren&#39;t any on my system.)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>Reinstall perl-cpanplus-dist-arch<\/li>\n<li>Run cpanp to install the Perl modules that aren&#39;t available on Arch or AUR, for example:\n<pre>sudo cpanp -i Math::Combinatorics<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Which seems to have done the job.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recent updates (in June 2012) to Arch Linux replaced Perl 5.14 with 5.16.
